September 5th, 2023, is a day forever esteemed in the life of Marie Duversonne, as a day that proved that "dreams delayed are not dreams denied”. In 1983, Marie migrated to the United States as a mother of four. By 1989, she was a single mother earning only minimum wage and raising seven children. This situation made it hard for her to believe that the American dream could be realized. Nonetheless, she kept it alive in her heart. Although Marie was still trying to navigate life in this new country, she worked hard to provide everything her children needed to make their future lives a success.
As time went on, the light of that dream started to dim, especially, as she learned what it took to make the dream of homeownership come true. Working jobs that kept her in the very low-income percentile, made owning a home extremely farfetched and a miracle would be needed. Yet, she remained grounded in her faith that it would happen though she was not sure how, but it would.
Now, 40 years later, she has turned the key and entered the home that she dreamt about so many years ago. At 69 years old, after raising her seven children, and now grandmother of eight, and overcoming many obstacles, Marie Duversonne is an example that our dreams only die if we allow them to. It is not a matter of if it will happen, but when it will happen - dreams do come true!
